I ran an errand at lunch today and ran into road construction on my route. The road was blocked off, and I was forced to detour several blocks out of my way—backtracking and then going around. It was an inconvenience, and I was annoyed at the extra time it took. But then, I realized the alternate route had me driving down a couple of streets I never take, and it was an opportunity for me to see and appreciate some neat architecture in the homes of that neighborhood.
The inconvenience was not wasted time after all, but rather an opportunity to take the scenic route. Apparently today, I needed that.
